Dear Councillor Kaschak,

As a resident of your ward, I support the proper funding for the Transit Windsor Master Plan in the 2022 Budget Proposal, specifically with respect to 418X route. 
In 2019, Windsor’s City Council declared a climate emergency. In early 2020, council committed to the vision and timeline of the More Than Transit Master Plan. Just earlier this year, the Windsor Works Report was unanimously supported by council, detailing a link between economic development and improvements to public transit. These commitments need action - by approving funding for the 418X Route in the 2022 Operating Budget, and for the 6 additional buses required for the route in the 2022 Capital Budget.

Investing in public transit has been shown to improve the economic health of a city by directly creating jobs as part of the investment as well as help fight climate change by getting people out of their cars and onto the bus. Investments in transit are also able to provide access to both education and employment opportunities. For those who are unemployed, the Women’s Enterprise Skills Training (WEST) group has noted that 50% cite transportation as a barrier. Investing in the 418X would provide direct access to educational opportunities at the University of Windsor, similar to what the 518X has done for St. Clair College, which has seen high success with route ridership.

I urge you to support funding the 418X to provide access to education and employment opportunities and to improve our city as a whole.
